Commencement of Skills in Demand and National Innovation Visas Starting 7th December 2024
Home » News  »  Commencement of Skills in Demand and National Innovation Visas Starting 7th December 2024

In a significant update from the Department of Home Affairs, it has been officially announced that the much-anticipated Skills in Demand Visa alongside the National Innovation Visa will be rolling out on 7th December 2024. The announcement clarifies that the new Skills in Demand visa will be taking the place of the current subclass 482 – Temporary Skill Shortage visa, with potential modifications rather than a complete removal of the subclass.

As we gear up for this pivotal transition, a comprehensive Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) was released today, featuring 456 occupations. This includes modern roles like 224114 Data Analyst and 225114 Content Creator (Marketing), reflecting the demand in today's global workforce. These occupations will form the backbone of the Core Skills Pathway, offering a streamlined process closely aligned with the current subclass 482 visa requirements outside the Labour Agreement stream.

Interestingly, the CSOL is set to incorporate occupations previously unconsidered for temporary work visas, such as childcare-related roles – 421111 Child Care Worker and 421114 Out of School Hours Care Worker, marking a significant expansion in the eligibility criteria.
